The American Avalanche Institute began avalanche awareness and hazard evaluation courses the winter of 1974-75 in Silverton, Colorado and Jakson, Wyoming. Since then, courses also have been held in ten other states. from the very beginning, AAI instructors have been chosen for their experoence working in snow and avalanches. Over 8000 outdoor enthusiastd and profossionals have attended AAI courses
