Mount Massive
With a height of 4396 meters and rising to a ridge that is three miles long, Mount Massive is considered as the secod highest peak in Colorado. It is part of the Sawatch Range and it lies south of Mount Elbert, the highest mountain in Colorado. The first ascent was made by Henry Gannett.
Its name implies literally what Mount Massive is. It has a three-mile summit crest with five summits above 14,000 feet.
How to Get There
The nearest major airport is in Denver, Colorado.
Standard route:
From Leadville, drive south on US-24. Turn right on Colorado 300, then left on Lake County 11. Turn right at 1.8 miles and you will reach San Isabel National Forest. Go on until you reach the Mount Massive Trailhead.
Best Time to Climb
Climbing conditions are favorable from June to September.
