Castle Peak
With a height of 4348 meters, Castle Peak is the highest Colorado Fourteener in the Elk Range. It offers a wonderful hike with routes that are calss 1 - 2.
Castle Peak is the southernmost fourteener in the Elk Range and it is situated near Aspen City. In 1873, Castle Peak was first climbed by Hayden Survey.
Most people also climb Conundrum Peak, a neighboring peak and an unofficial Colorado fourteener.
Montezuma Glacier is the standard route to Castle Peak. This is a snowfield located between Castle Peak and Conundrum Peak. No matter what time of the year, make sure to include a good ice axe in your climbing gear when taking this route.
Best Time to Climb
June, July, August, and September offer good climbing conditions.
