Mount Tyndall
At 4273 meters, Mount Tyndall is a picturesque mountain which is situated next to Mount Williamson at the Shepherd's Pass. It was named after John Tyndall, an English mountaineer. Mount Tyndall was first climbed in 1864 by Clarence King and Richard Cotter.
The Northwest Ridge is an easy class 2 climbing and is the easiest route to the summit of Mount Tyndall. Climbers often take this route via the Shepherd's Pass.
How to Get There
From Independence (corner of Highway 395 and Market Street), turn west on Market Street. It becomes Onion Valley Road outside the town. At 4.4 miles, turn left on Foothill Road. When you reach mile 5.5, follow the right fork. After three more forks (go right at each one), you will reach Shepherd Pass Trailhead.
Best Time to Climb
Climbing conditions are favorable from late June to early part of July.
