We climb Kilimanjaro via the Machame or Heim Glacier routes. These are fantastic routes with incredible scenery. The Machame is a non-technical route and gives climbers a chance to climb at altitude amidst an amazing backdrop. Many companies climb this route in 6 days, but we add an extra day to the itinerary to aid in acclimatization. This extra day, usually spent before Barafu camp, makes the push to the summit much easier and allows for a more comfortable experience. The Heim Glacier route is a snow and glacier route that involves moderate angle climbing. Participants on the Heim Glacier route will need some past climbing experience. We do this route in 9 days. We combine both ascents of these routes with a descent of the normal route to complete a loop of the mountain. This is an amazing way to see all that Kilimanjaro has to offer, and to miss the crowds. Our itineraries are designed to give participants a positive high altitude experience. We have found that this makes a big difference in being well acclimatized and feeling strong for summit day!
