Alaska Arctic National Wildlife Refuge
Alaskan Arctic Expeditions was founded by arctic explorer Joe Henderson in 1987. Henderson and his dogteam of purebred Alaskan Malamutes have explored the arctic regions of Alaska (ANWR) for over 25 years and his expertise in arctic travel is unprecedented in modern times.
Alaskan Arctic Expeditions offers extremely remote dogsled and skiing expeditions in some of the world’s most pristine and unexplored land, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). Encompassing over 19 million acres, ANWR provides an awe-inspiring backdrop for a genuinely captivating Alaskan adventure. These expeditions are truly a wilderness experience and at times you will be 100 miles from the nearest road or village. We offer unique hands on approach to all our expeditions. The focus of each expedition is to explore Alaska’s untouched, pristine wilderness and to gain experience in mountain skiing and dogsled travel with one of the oldest dog breeds known to man, the Alaskan malamute.
For your comfort and warmth our expeditions are equipped with specially designed insulated and heated tents which include woodstoves. Each of our clients will have their own tent that will provide the space that’s needed to dry clothing and gear. Couple’s tents are available on request. We also provide arctic outer wear, parkas, boots mukluks, mitts, coveralls and all the necessary camping and safety gear. All meals and food is also included in the package.
Trips in ANWR are offered during February, March, April and May. Opportunities for exploring and viewing wildlife are unlimited! Arctic foxes, caribou, wolves musk oxen are just a few of the critters that you may see in their natural habitat. The arctic is also the best place to view the Northern Lights!
