Consultation on Number 4 Gully Marker of Ben Nevis

THURSDAY, 24 NOVEMBER 2011
Submitted By: Mariangela Silvestre

The John Muir Trust is inviting members of the public to comment on proposals to remove an abseil pole above Coire Leis, close to the summit of Ben Nevis, and to retain the Number 4 Gully marker.

The Trust has a presumption against new structures on the summit. It also aims to remove structures that are deemed to no longer have a use, other than those that have a cultural heritage value, such as the ruins of the observatory.

Any changes are carried out following consultation with the Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) and other interested groups and individuals.

The Trust is inviting any interested parties to comment on proposals to:

- Remove the top abseil post at the top of Coire Leis and replace it with a cairn at the best point for making a descent from Ben Nevis.
- Retain the Number 4 Gully marker.

The public is encouraged to email any comments to mike.daniels@jmt.org, or write to Mike Daniels, Tower House, Station Road, Pitlochry, PH16 5AN by 5pm Monday 30 April 2012.
