41-year old John Delaney, the managing director of online market prediction company Intrade.com, died on May 20 while attempting to climb Mount Everest. The Irish national was said to have collapsed at about less than 50 metres short of the summit. This was his second attempt to summit the world's highest mountain.
Delaney was part of the 18-member team of one US and six Russian climbers, together with eight sherpas and two guides. The team had left the camp on Friday at 8,300 metres in order to traverse the final section of the famous peak. He was the first Irish national to have died on the mountain.
He is survived by his wife and three kids, one of which was just recently been given birth. The family suffers further as the expedition team is unable to bring the Irish national's body back from the Himalayan peak as it was too far up. The body, instead, shall remain where he had died.
