Manir Found Dead In Ben Nevis

TUESDAY, 15 FEBRUARY 2011
Submitted By: Mariangela Silvestre

The 20-year old Haider Ali Manir was found dead after a week when he attempted to climb Ben Nevis wearing only a pair of jeans and a light jacket. Manir was with his cousin on January 30, the latter returning back and later on reported him missing. Eight mountain rescue teams searched for Manir for nearly a week and found the victim on Britain's highest peak.

Manir was last seen at about 1000 meters up the mountain by his cousin as he insisted on pursuing the climb despite the weather conditions and his inadequate clothing. The police said: "Searches were carried out over a period of five days and during this time rescue teams had to endure extremely poor weather conditions and reduced visibility, making it difficult for searchers to operate on the hill."

The highest mountain in the United Kingdom, the spot is a main attraction due to its high cliffs and is considered one of the top spots in the UK for ice climbing.
