Submitted By: Mariangela Silvestre

Knocknarea, Ireland - Ashes of world-renowned founding member of the Irish Mountaineering Club and Association for Adventure Sports (AFAS), Joss Lynam, will be scattered from the top of Knocknarea 3 pm on Saturday, 12 February. The Father of Irish Mountaineering passed away last January 9 in his late eighties in a Dublin hospital after an illness.

He participated in his first international climbing expedition to India in the 1940s and was a deputy leader of the first major mountaineering trip by an all Irish group to Rakaposhi in 1964. Founder of the Irish orienteering back in the 1960s, Lynam was also previously the Editor of the Irish Mountain Log, the magazine of Mountaineering Ireland.

The ash scattering ceremony shall take place north of the main Cairn, with his wife, Nora, daughters Ruth and Clodagh and their families, and friends.
