The Big Weekend of No Fuss Endurance

THURSDAY, 2 SEPTEMBER 2010

On 11 and 12 September 2010 more than 280 multisport athletes will descend on Fort William and Lochaber, The Outdoor Capital of the UK, for a bumper weekend of the UK's toughest triathlon and mountain bike events.

From a central hub at The Old Fort in Fort William outdoor event specialists No Fuss Events will stage no less than three triathlons and a grueling cross country mountain bike stage race, all combining the most breathtaking scenery in Scotland with energy sapping and heart pumping endurance in a fun and friendly environment:

Saturday 11 September 2010
THE BIG BEN NEVIS TRIATHLON - Some say this is the toughest off road triathlon on the UK circuit.

THE HALF BIG BEN NEVIS TRIATHLON - the Scottish Off Road Triathlon Championship and half the Big Ben distance.

THE ORANGE TOUR DE BEN NEVIS (sponsored by Orange Mountain Bikes) - A no frills, 61km point-to-point mountain bike stage race that circumnavigates Ben Nevis, taking in some of the most rugged and isolated terrain in the Highlands.

Sunday 12 September 2010
Neither half Ironman nor middle distance triathlon, the inaugural HIGHLAND WARRIOR (70.3) TRIATHLON will require a fighting spirit pushing even the toughest of the longer distance triathletes to the limit!

These enthusiasts will not only have to cope with extreme energy sapping courses, they will also have to demonstrate great tactical ability, superb bike control and the best open water swimming techniques if they are to emerge victorious.

Frazer Coupland from No Fuss Events, said: 'The Big Ben Nevis Triathlon weekend is always one of my favourite weekends. This year, the addition of the Tour De Ben Nevis and the Highland Warrior Triathlon are just going to add to the excitement. There will be a lot happening over the weekend including amazing displays by Street Trials rider Ben Savage and taster sessions for the kids at Lochaber Leisure Centre.'

Multisport athletes looking for the ultimate challenge should look no further than the iconic Big Ben Nevis Triathlon on Saturday 11 September. It offers experienced competitors the opportunity to test their skills, stamina and endurance away from the smooth, predictable tarmac and calm inland waters of other, more traditional 'tri' events. This triathlon pits entrants against the choppy waters of the freezing cold Loch Linnhe (1.9km), the long, loose climbs and fast singletrack descents of Glen Nevis (90km) and the final monster challenge, a (21km) hill run up (and then back down) Ben Nevis, The UK's highest and most feared mountain.

For the second year running the Half Big Ben Nevis Triathlon, the half distance race, run at the same time as the main race will be the Scottish Off Road Triathlon Championship.

Also being staged on Saturday 11 September is The Orange Tour De Ben Nevis, a new event to the No Fuss programme for 2010. The ultimate mountain bike endurance race and mountain marathon rolled into one is a 61km point-to-point stage race that includes time trials, a technical downhill, a carry climb and decent, a cross country sprint and an urban stage. The route that circumnavigates the UK's highest mountain is undulating and varied with river and stream crossings, tough climbs and long rewarding descents. For riders who are looking for a sense of adventure this route has also long been recognised as one of the best mountain bike trails in the Highlands; bringing mountain biking back to the mountains. The fastest cumulative times and the highest stage points are combined to decide the winners.

On Sunday 12 September triathletes competing in Fort William's inaugural Highland Warrior 70.3 Triathlon, will take on a 1900m sea loch swim, a 90km road cycle that passes by the Commando Memorial in Spean Bridge, 'Prince Charlie's Monument' at Glenfinnan and on through the mythical Glen Nevis (where Highlander, Braveheart and Rob Roy were filmed) and a 21km trail and road run through the Glen Nevis Forest at back to the finish at the Old Fort. Whilst closely related in distance to a half Ironman or middle distance triathlon this is actually a full on challenge that will push even the toughest of the longer distance multisport athletes to the limit.
