Summit for Someone Announces Mountaineering Course

Backpacker Magazine’s Summit For Someone, with Ouray, Colo.-based San Juan Mountain Guides, is excited to announce a 4-day beginner mountaineering course for its 2009 season.

Summit For Someone, the No. 1 mountaineering fundraiser in the country, has for four years provided alpine adventures to hundreds of climbers, who raise money for Big City Mountaineers’ wilderness programs for at-risk urban youth. But this years Beginner Mountaineering Course is the first SFS offering that puts an emphasis on teaching participants mountaineering skills.

The Beginner Mountaineering Course is just one of 20 different trips offered by Summit For Someone in 2009. Climbs range from beginner and intermediate climbs in Colorado, California, the Pacific Northwest and Wyoming to full-on expeditions in Alaska and Mexico.
