Skier Poised to Win Ski Mountaineering Cup
FRIDAY, 28 MARCH 2008
It will no longer be a surprise if Whistler’s Melanie Bernier takes home the women’s overall Canadian National Ski Mountaineering Cup in the upcoming Whistler Backcountry Freeride Jam at the World Ski and Snowboard Festival. After all, the female enthusiast has already proven herself worthy of the title.
Bernier was part of a six-member Canadian Ski Mountaineering team that took place in the Alps between Switzerland and France recently. The team took part in the individual race, vertical and long distance events, and set its record at 19th out of the 27 participating countries.
Bernier placed 32nd in the individual race, 40th in the vertical contest, and 23rd in the informal long distance race.
