Patagonian Climbers Complete the Torre Traverse
TUESDAY, 29 JANUARY 2008
Rolando Garibotti and Colin Haley completed the Torre Traverse. This is a link from Aguja Standhardt to Punta Herron, Torre Egger, and Cerro Torre in a single alpine-style outing.
Garibotti, 36, is an accomplished Patagonian climber, while Haley, 23, previously made two successful climbs in Patagonia.
After several attempts, Alex and Thomas Huber, with Swiss Stephan Siegrist, tried the traverse around mid-January of this year. Hubers and Siegrist decided to quit on January 21 due to weather conditions, while Haley and Garibotti began the traverse.
The first ascent of the traverse was made by Ermanno Salvaterra, Adriano Cavallaro and Ferruccio Vidi in 1991.
