British Team Creates New Route at Dangchezhengla
THURSDAY, 27 DECEMBER 2007
A four-man British team made the second attempt to climb Yangmolong in Western Sichuan.
Steve Hunt, veteran Himalayan climber Dick Isherwood, Peter Rowat and the expedition organizer Dave Wynne-Jones explored the northern approaches of Yangmolong.
While they failed to summit the mountain, they were able to establish a new route on the northern face of neighboring Dangchezhengla. Their climb became the third ascent of Dangchezhengla peak.
Yangmolong, at 6066 meters, is the highest of a small group of snow peaks in the middle of the Shaluli Shan, east of Batang on the Sichuan-Tibet Highway. Dangchezhengla is one of the three other peaks that make up the Yangmolong.
