A climber decided to put on the back burner his goal of scaling the world’s seven highest island peaks to focus on a much-needed mission of reaching out to less-privileged children of Ethiopia.
Thirty-eight year old Nigel Vardy recently announced his plan of traveling to Ethiopian highlands on Saturday to visit schools and carry out relief work there. Furthermore, Valdy said he will help in repairing the schools there and take part in teaching some of the children.
Vardy is not novice in this kind of charity work since he had already joined Raleigh International before in a similar mission. Raleigh International is United Kingdom’s leading youth development charity.
"I'm going with a group of people I know through Raleigh who I went to Ghana with 10 years ago,” Vardy enthusiastically said. “"They said they were going to Ethiopia to do some work with the children and I jumped on board. "It will make a change from climbing, although we will be living at slight altitude. "It will be quite cold and wet, which surprises many people because when you think of Africa, you picture warmth and sunshine."
