General Kapoor Flags in NCC Expedition

Vice Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Deepak Kapoor, has called upon the NCC cadets to inculcate the spirit of adventure and discipline to tackle challenges in life. Flagging-in the successful NCC Boys mountaineering expedition to Kalanag peak in the Garhwal Himalayas here today, General Kapoor said this sort of activity would go a long way to promote adventurism in the youth and nurture qualities of character, courage, leadership and comradeship. He also complimented the 20-member team of NCC cadets and officers for scaling the 20,956 ft high peak, considered very difficult and treacherous.
Earlier, the Director-General, NCC, Lt. General Prakash S. Chaudhary, in his welcome address, highlighted the prorgammes and activities of the NCC. He said this was the 59th mountaineering expedition launched by the NCC and another NCC Girls mountaineering expedition would be launched in August.
The team, led by Lt. Colonel Amrek Singh, conquered the peak on June 13th. During their trekking, the NCC cadets cleared the route of plastic and other non-biodegradable garbage. Doctors and paramedics accompanying the expedition held free medical camps for benefit of local people residing in remote and inaccessible areas.
