Oldest Man to Scale the Summit of Mount Everest

Japan Mountaineering Association announced that a seventy-one year old Japanese mountain climber reached the 8,850 metre summit of Mount Everest, Tuesday. He is the oldest person to reach the world's highest peak on May 22.
Katsusuke Yanagisawa was a retired junior high school teacher and was 71 years, 2 months and 2 days of age when he reached the summit of Mount Everest. He joined New Zealand climbing expedition who left the camp in the Chinese-controlled Tibetan autonomous region last April 8. Members as well as Yanagisawa reached the summit at around 8 in the morning beating the old record held by Takao Arayama who was 70 years, 7 months and 13 days.
Seventy years old Yuichiro Miura who is a Japanese professional skier was the oldest to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 2003.
