Tourism Emerging as Major Industry in State

Trainees selected for under going training in Adventure Sports including Skiing and Mountaineering through Jawahar Institute of mountaineering, Pahalgam called on Minister for Tourism Muhammad Dilawar Mir.
Interacting with the trainees, Dilwar said that Tourism is emerging as one of the major Industries having plethora of Pilgrim Tourism, Rural Tourism, Eco Tourism, Heritage Tourism and Adventure Tourism.
He further said that the Skiing and Mountaineering Training course will be conducted at Gulmarg and Pahalgam respectively under expert guidance. The trainees after successful completion of these courses shall acquire the capacity for self employment and become eligible for opening private Adventure Tour Operator Agencies and work as Liaison Officers, Guides for Private Adventure Companies.
Dilawar said that the Tourism Department has already nominated 75 youth for various Hostel Management Certificate Courses under Capacity Building for Services Provider Scheme to be conducted by the Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar. Directorate of Tourism, Jammu has already trained 183 waiters, Receptionist, Taxi, Cab Drivers and Dhaba wallas under Capacity Building for Service Providers Schemes at Patnitop and Katra during current financial year. The department also proposes to provide training in Paragliding through National Level Experts in order to boost Adventure Tourism and generate employment.
Director Tourism and other senior officers of Tourism department were present in the occasion.
