The Nepalese and Japanese mountaineers are all set to climb Nangpai Gosum in Nepal together on Tuesday. The new and remote peak Nangpai Gosum is 7,321 meters high and is opened to climbers this year.
The Nepal-Japan Friendship Golden Jubilee Nangpai Gosum Expedition 2006 is organized to mark the golden jubilee of the establishment of Nepal-Japan diplomatic relations and the successful climb of Mt. Manaslu which is also in Nepal.
The Nepalese climbers are from the Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and the Japanese climbers are from the Japan Workers Alpine Federation (JWAF).
Only six members of the team, Nepali expedition leader Da Gombu Sherpa, Pemba Dorjee Sherpa, Mingmar Dorjee Sherpa, Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, Japanese expedition leader Kazuyoshi Kondo and Kazuo Kozu will climb the peak.
Nepalese general expedition leader Ang Tshering Sherpa and Japanese general expedition leader Masuo Moriya and Toba Mari will only go up to Nangpai Gosum Base Camp.
