Mountainsmith Presents Series of Trekking Poles

WEDNESDAY, 30 AUGUST 2006

Golden, Colorado –August 2006 — Mountainsmith presents a series of three trekking poles for 2006 to complement their line of back and day packs. The poles help transfer weight from the legs to the arms, alleviating pressure from the knees and spine. This provides more power on steep technical ascents, provides stability over unstable terrain, and is simply an enjoyable way to go further with less stress and more enjoyment.

The construction differences in the three poles are in the materials. The Carbonlite Pro is made of high-tech carbon and 6061 aluminum with shock-absorbing molded cork grips and adjustable neoprene straps. This is the pole for those who count every ounce and want the lightest weight gear possible or for those who simply want the most technical product available. Heavy duty 7075 aluminum with comfortable dual-density rubber molded grips is used in the Pyrite 7075. This construction is slightly heavier than carbon but very strong and durable for those users not as concerned with weight. The Rhyolite 6061 utilizes a more industrial type of aluminum with comfortable rubber molded grips, very suitable for weekend use or where a lower price counts more than the lowest weight. They are priced at $99, $79 and $49, respectively.

The three models share some important key features. They all have three-section aluminum shafts with anti-shock absorption systems. Quick-twist locks make it easy to expand and contract the poles. Narrow-profile baskets can be quickly removed without tools. Rubber covers protect the tips during off-trail exploration.
