Lives Also at Risk Due to Global Warming

TUESDAY, 25 JULY 2006

The continued rise of the global temperature not only endangers the existence of glaciers but also the lives of those who love to go mountaineering and do winter sports. This is according to what Patrick Joseph blogged about at the Sierra Club's website, www.sierraclub.org.

According to Joseph, the warmer temperatures will further increase the risk of avalanches and rock falls during climbs. Aside from that, there is also the danger of meltwater lakes bursting and overflowing. Worse, 80 percent of the Alps' glacier cover may be lost if the summer air temperatures rise by three degrees Celsius, according to computer modeling experiments, Joseph said.

To read more of Joseph's very informative article, please refer to the Sierra Club's website at www.sierraclub.org.
