Water Purifiers - Uses and Applications
Why do you need a Water Purifier?
You pack your bags and get yourself ready for your trip to the wilderness. You check its contents to see if everything you need for your trip is already there. Food? Check. Tent? Check. Sleeping bag? Check. And the list goes on and on. But did you remember to bring a Water Purifier with you? Did you bring Iodine and Chlorine tablets? Or how about Water Filters or Bottle Purifiers? What do you need them for anyway? You may argue that the wilderness contains all the most natural things in the planet, and what is natural is unspoiled, so why worry about clean water? Apparently, all the natural, unspoiled things contained in the wilderness also include bacteria, viruses and protozoa. Believe it or not, that clear-looking water you took from the stream contains millions of those tiny things you so dread. They can cause a host of illness that could show you the uglier side of nature. You definitely don't want that to happen. Therefore, be a wise camper - bring a Water Purifier with you.
Where do you get water?
Alright, you have a Water Purifier, but where would you get your water? Others would think that a clear, free-flowing stream is the best water source in the wilderness. Apparently not. It is actually safer to get water from still, clear water because many of the sediments and microorganisms settle at the bottom due to their weight. Therefore, there would be fewer microorganisms to filter out and fewer chances of having contaminants in the water so long as you fetch it near the surface. Also avoid water sources where human and animal activity is obvious. Check for traces of a heavily-camped area or those where animal droppings can be found. If, however, there are no sources other than that, go further upstream for water.
There are several ways of purifying your water from simple boiling to the use of Bottle Purifiers. Choosing among them which one you think is the best for you can be a time-consuming task, but the succeeding pages will help you narrow them down to what you really need.
