Chamonix Mountaineering
Written by: adeguia
Chamonix is located in eastern France, at the foot of Mont Blanc. It is a town of extreme sports - be it summer or winter activities. It is also the home of the very first Winter Olympics in 1924.
Chamonix is a bustling town. Skiing, Snowboarding, ice skating, Cross-country Skiing, paragliding, husky sledding, and guided snowshoeing are only some of the outdoor activities that can be done while you are in Chamonix. For the less adventurous visitors, Chamonix offers cinema, museum, beauty salons, spas, casinos, bars, and night clubs.
Mont Blanc is labeled as the roof of Europe because it is the highest mountain in the west of Russia. It is also considered as the world's Mountaineering and Skiing capital. It ranked third as the most visited nature spot in the world. Majority of its visitors are alpinists.
Climbing Mont Blanc is a dream for a number of mountaineers. It is not just the height of the mountain that counts - the hidden difficulty of its trail is legendary. Long ago, the wealthy Englishmen were the first ones to enjoy the thrill of climbing Mont Blanc. They hired local people to serve as guides during their trips. This hobby of the Englishmen later developed the mountain into a popular mountain climbing destination. Terray, Rĕbufat, Cassin, Bonatti, Desmaison, Hemming, and Berault have all reached the summit of Mont Blanc.
Now, mountaineers often prefer climbing the mountain via the Aiguille du Gouter and the Arěte de Bosses. Some take the Aiguille du Midi via Mont Blanc du Tacul and Mont Maudit route. Another route is from the Domes de Miage via the famous Bionanassay Ridge. Just like in the early times of mountain climbing in Mont Blanc, mountaineers are still advised to hire guides to assist them in their expedition.
