HI
This is my first post on this forum. I am getting ready to summit Mt. Cotopaxi in June. I was born in Ecuador but live in the States so it is one of my life goals to climb this mountain. I have been to the refuge at Cotopaxi before and a few other mountains in Ecuador but never a summit climb. Any advice is welcome, particulary a gear list would be very helpful
Thanks

wow! mt.cotopaxi looks like a challenge. i've been to smaller volcanoes. Like the ones in south east asia. Most of them were dormant already which made the climb so much easier. I mean, cotopaxi is an active one and the highest breathing land monster in the world. I wish you all the luck buddy! After asia, ill prep myself for this one!

hey what a coincidence! i'm looking into a summit climb of cotopaxi at the end of june. when are you going? i'm planning on going alone... and paying for a guide when you're a single person is a lot of money!
are you climbing with a company/guide or anything? so far i've talked to Safari and they recommended i do 3 climbs 4 days prior to my attempt on cotopaxi to acclimatize.
very excited to hear you're doing cotopaxi! best of luck, amigo!

Inzi,
I have family down there that is involved in the expeditions; I haven’t contacted them yet but plan on doing so. I will be down there from June 2 to the 20th so I will have enough time to acclimatize. I will let you know what tour group I decide to use.
Cotopaxi, is definitely a challenge. From what I have heard the biggest obstacle is the altitude.

Mt. Cotopaxi is one of the highest active volcanoes in the world. Second highest summit in the Ecuador reaching a height of 5,897. Last major erruption was in 1975. So in this case..it is not too dormant at all.

Hey Inzi-
I will be climbing Cotopaxi in June (20-27) on my own as well. I just booked a guided tour with Alpine Highs. I would like to do some acclimatization a few days before, so if you are needing someone to hike with, let me know!
ps. Did kilimanjaro last summer and it was awesome...I saw it was on your list!

hello! please take note of local warnings and clearance from the local government. i read that in 2001 there were reports of earthquakes and possible eruption. its last eruption happened in 1985 only, so it is still considered as an active volcano. but nevertheless, im sure it will be a great experience!!
