Hey im from Australia, and looking at going to New Zealand in december to do a Mountaineering course. And hopefully to acheive a Summit while im at it.
I have ropeing skills in abseiling and climbing, allong with lots of hikeing experience. I am also very fit as im training for adventure racing allong with all the sport i play.
What i'am looking for is some advice on a couple of things.
1. What company will be the best to learn new skills to help in getting into mountaineering?
2. Considering my fitness and experience what mountains should i look at doing a guided climb?
Thanks for your help its appreciated.

Hey Mountain Goat, I'm from Adelaide and I'm off to Unzud at the end of
Jan 09 to climb with Adventure Consultants. I have been training for 8
months now, basically hiking up Mt lofty every week. I'm now up to
carrying a 20kg pack starting at the top walking down (about 3.7ks and
800m vertical) and then back up. I have been training on the treadmill
twice a week (about 10k's each time), ride my MtB once a week in the
forest near my house and rock climb in Onkaparinga Gorge to get my rope
skills back up to scratch. I'm only just becoming confident enough with
my fitness to attempt 12days of Mountaineering. I don't want to be the
punter that holds everyone else up. I have purchased most of my gear
from Paddy Pallins in Adelaide and their advice has been nothing but
amazing. Luke, the owner hooked me up with a group of legends that
climb every week. My only problem is keeping up with the information
overload these guys are willing to impart.
My suggestion is to speak to the guys in the outdoor shops. Most
of them would have some sort of experience with mountaineering.
Checkout www.chockstone.org for climbing dudes in Vic or get onto the Back Country Forum within www.ski.com.au as these clowns ooze info! :)
