I was recently in your shoes looking for a Hardshell that I could use everywhere. Alot of North Face gear is fine but thats a company I tend to stray away from. Looking at the 2 jackets you were asking about the Marmot jacket was $400USD where the North Face was $200USD. The Marmot is for sure a 3 Layer Goretex Pro. I think the North Face is too being a 3L Goretex. Goretex Pro Shell is going to be the most waterproof thing you can get. It will be very abrasion resistant and quite breatheable. I recommend that material hands down though Westcomb makes some nice Event material jackets and that material is rumored to be more breathable than the Goretex Pro. Now to what you wanted to know.

Personally I would go for the Marmot Exum jacket because of Marmot's quality. I would also take a look at Arcteryx as the price will be similar to the Marmot and the quality is great. I chose to go with the Arcteryx Theta AR its also a ProShell and lists for $475USD full retail but I got mine for $253 after tax so there are always deals out there. Marmot and Arcteryx are pretty much the 2 companies I recommend. I lean slightly towards Arcteryx as I own and can attest to their performance. None of the Gore Pro Shells will have a Fleece liner or anything they are pretty much straight foreward shell only. Good Luck!       Hope this helped.
