Anyone out there have any advice on choosing an avalanche beacon? According to what I've heard and read, they all transmit and receive on the same push, or frequency, and are more or less the same size, etc. Are there any other considerations to be taken into account? Are any really good? Really bad? Anything to watch out for? Look for?
Thanks in advance!
Alex

From what i hear most beacons are basically the same and most should work cross brand and such. But what i think is more important than becons is avalanche awareness. so many people get a casual attitude about being buried. even with becons and avi lungs and a team of good buddies, you can still die.  avoiding avalanche is way better than using becons. so until i have enough money for a becon i would just go to avi classes and learn as much as possible about snow condiditons, weather patterns, slope and terrain features.
