a lot can happen in a year, what more in a few, check your gear, try walking around and looking up to the clouds, see if you can read them

I definitely agree with everyone. Make sure to do some workout to prepare yourself to climb again. Build yourself up and awaken those muscles.

Besides some cardio/strength/stretching training when you're stuck in town, try going on some full day hikes (6+ hours). Get some weekend backpacking trips in. Especially in areas you're looking at climbing in, this will get you comfortable with the area and get your body ready for the punishment we all love.

Take a partner and find some bouldering to do. If you have the cash, look into local gyms with climbing walls. These can be great when you can't find a partner since most will have someone to belay you.

Books are fine for primers and refreshers. I love my Freedom of the Hills, Avalanche Safety (Tony Daffren), John Long series of climbing books, and Medicine for Mountaineering. However, the best and safest way to pick up skills is to join a local club. Most will do skills training and will do trips for all levels of skill.

Hope this helps!
