Remote Places
There is nothing like a trip in the mountains. The worries of the week pass away, your eyes become accustomed to the great spaces between the sea and the sky, and you start to relax. Around you precious wild flowers grow carelessly amongst the cracks and crannies of the rocks. Birds browse for food for their young. And then the clouds come in and the pressures of navigation begin. Or maybe you're not sure of the path to get you to the cable car.
That's where we come to help you. With years of mountain experience, all around the world, we know the mountains where we work. Where to find the flowers, the wild birds and animals, and the paths. All our staff are qualified International Mountain Leaders (IMLs) or UIAGM Guides.
So the choice is yours. Guided trips through the mountains, or develop your navigation or winter skills so you can be self-sufficient. We don't run big trips. We do individual mountain journeys for small groups, and somewhere different each year. Where to this year? Have a look at the plans. If you like what you see, you can contact using this link We're busy in the UK throughout nine months of the year, and in the Summer, mountaineering in Europe. We specialise in trips to Austria, Algauer, Bavaria, and Northern Italy.

Winter Mountaineering Skills
The aim of this programme is to give you the confidence and skills necessary to travel safely under winter conditions. Winter is a tough environment, and the consequences of a slip can be fatal or embarrassing. Like all our other courses, we aim to make you an independent mountaineer, and the course will be tailored to suit your existing level of ability. For those with previous experience, revision and evaluation of personal techniques will be undertaken. We run winter courses depending where the snow is; Scotland, Wales or the Lakes. If you have no previous winter experience, two days of instruction will give you an introduction to winter skills and the chance to put them into practice. The first day will concentrate on basic skills, with the second day being an adventurous mountain journey under supervision. Those with good existing skills could undertake the second day with a safety skills revision at an appropriate place on route.
Introductory day - emphasis on safety and survival skills.
* Selection and fitting of appropriate winter clothing and equipment. Identification and avoidance of cold injuries and hypothermia. * Using the ice-axe - to protect your movements and give support on steep ground - to cut steps - to arrest a fall in various positions * Using crampons to move on ice and steeply angled ground. *Developing your skills and confidence in moving up, down and across slopes, using the ice axe and crampons for support and protection. *Selection of routes given prevailing conditions. *Assessment of the snowpack, recognising and evaluating avalanche risk.
Second day: Mountain Journey - develop winter travel skills.
*Select a journey given prevailing conditions. *Complete the chosen journey, being flexible given prevailing conditions, using the map and compass to navigate safely. *Assess the snowpack, recognising and evaluating avalanche risk. *Identify the location of cornices and minimise the risk of falling through. *Use a rope to protect yourself and others whilst navigating under difficult conditions. *Establish and use snow belays for emergency descents down steep slopes.
