Mount Everest
One has a sublime view from the Everest from the north and the west, when it stands out its neighbors: Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu.
The best seasons to climb Everest are either pre-monsoon (spring) or after monsoon (autumn).
Most ascents are made in the spring, usually reaching Base Camp in early April, with a view of climbing around the second week of May. During this time, the temperatures are relatively warm and the winds are generally less vicious than in the autumn. As always, the weather is variable and can be very unsettled and afternoon squalls are common. To made a successful summit attempt, you would normally need a fine spell lasting four or five days once the team is ready for a summit attempt.
In the autumn, crystal clear skies are the reward, if you are lucky! The heavy snow, left by the monsoon, and that is now covering the awkward rocks, can make some routes such as the South West Face easier than in spring. But be careful, by the cold temperatures, the snow can often be powdery and unstable. Post-monsoon attempts are usually a race against the upcoming winter winds, which hardly affects the lower peaks but are devastating above 7000m. Hence, having frostbite is a much bigger risk in the autumn than in the spring.
The Everest can also be climbed during the winter, but this would then be only for die-hards. Summit temperatures are as low as -50 degree Celsius combined with winds over 200 kph, blasting away much of the snow to leave bare rock and iron-hard ice. Since the first winter ascent of 1980, just a few have repeated such an attempt.
The same can be said of an ascent in the summer (monsoon). Since Reinhold Messner's solo ascent of the North Face during the monsoon period, also just a few have followed him. The advantages of this unorthodox approach were thick snow covering the sloping rocks, warmer, damper air putting less strain on the throat; and more protection from ultra-violet radiation.

South Col/South East Ridge
This is the most popular way up to the summit (it is also called the "yak" route) but should never be underestimated. It is extremely long with a variety of difficulties (mainly on snow and ice) over four main sections: the dangerous Khumbu Icefall, the steady plod up the Western Cwm, the steeper 1500m high Lhotse Face, and the long, long summit day from the South Col, first up a broad couloir, then along the South East Ridge, with a final sting-in-the-tail at the Hillary Step, just below the top.
South West Face Central Couloir The first ascent via this route was in 1975 and has only been repeated a few times since then. From the Western Cwm, the route climbs the huge Y-shaped couloir, taking the left fork through the rockband, then traversing back right across the face and up a gully to the South Summit and the final section of the East Ridge.
North Ridge/North East Ridge
This climbing route is shorter than the South Col route. The climbing already starts from the Advance Base at 6400m on the East Rongbuk Glacier. Above the North Col, the route becomes increasingly rocky with awkward terrain - vicious and frequent winds between 7000m and 8000m. Although the top camp is higher than the one on the South Col, the summit day itself is definitely harder.
North Face - Messner Variant
When Reinhold Messner made the first solo ascent in 1980, he climbed about halfway up the North Ridge, then traversed to the right to the Great Couloir, which he followed, bearing right to the summit.
