Cho Oyu
Cho Oyu, which means the "Turquoise goddess" in the Tibetan language, is situated 20 kilometers west of Mount Everest, on the Himalaya region at the border of Tibet and Nepal. At a height of 8201 meters, Cho Oyu is the world's sixth highest mountain.
In October 1954, an Austrian expedition first climbed Cho Oyu. Herbert Tichy, Sherpa Pasang Dawa Lama, and Joseph Joechler of the said expedition climbed the mountain through the northwest ridge.
When to Climb
Conditions are colder during the pre-monsoon season. On the other hand, post-monsoon season (September - October) offers warmer climbing conditions.
