Tim Mosedale - Trips to Cho Oyu
Join a trip to Cho Oyu for your first experience of an 8,000m peak. Whilst it is the 6th highest peak in the world it is also widely recognised as being the best 'first' 8,000er. Sep 2006 for only £5,350 for a fully inclusive KTM to KTM trip.
This is a fully supported trip as opposed to a guided trip. By that we mean that you will not be guided or roped to the summit (although this is an option if you would like to have a personal Climbing Sherpa for peace of mind). It it a professionally lead expedition where the western leaders and Climbing Sherpas will be with you on the mountain and providing you with the logisitics and advice needed for your safe summit bid.
There are ample staff to ensure that safety is not compromised but there may be times when you are moving independently on the mountain (more so at lower altitudes). You will probably summit together with anothe rmember of staff, and it is hoped that this is the case, but it cannot be guaranteed due to the nature of high altitude mountaineering.
Tim Mosedale and Ian Wade are both full time climbers, mountaineers and expedition leaders. They have both recently summited Everest and Ian has worked on Cho Oyu twice before and summited once without the use of supplementary oxygen. Your Climbing Sherpas will be some of the best and most experienced in the world.
All expedition group members will be fully trained in the appropriate techniques required to negotiate any fixed ropes using jumars, belay devices and prussiks for going up and down the mountain. All members will also be made aware of how to use oxygen regardless of whether they require it or not.
Briefings will be held every day at Cho Oyu Base Camp to update everyone about progress on the mountain, find out about people's health and to ensure that the appropriate stores and equipment are at the relevant places on the mountain.
For this Cho Oyu expedition experience at altitude is preferred but not necessarily essential. The only definite prerequisite that is required is that you are absolutely competent in the use of crampons and ice axe before you come on the trip. To that end I can provide suitable courses in Scotland to suit your needs and aspirations.
Also providing Scottish winter courses and UK rock climbing courses as well as trips to Ama Dablam.
